The Art of Quilting and How to Get Started
If you’re looking for a new, creative hobby to get into don't overlook the art of quilting as an option. If you’re thinking quilting is an old fashioned pastime and probably not your cup o’ tea, I’d suggest giving it another thought. According to the Creative Crafts Group’s research on Quilting in America in 2010, the value of the quilting market has grown substantially over the years. This means there are tons of active quilters out there.
If you’re still wondering why I decided to write about quilting today, it’s for many reasons, but mostly because I don’t think the hobby gets enough recognition. I really admire the art form because of the creative process, the variety of quilt styles and, of course, the end result: really amazing quilts. What is more rewarding than that?
I’ve sifted through some of the coolest quilting products and want to share with you what I’ve found:
- Learn to Sew My First Quilt Kit - I love this product. It shows that literally anyone can get into the craft of sewing. It comes with an instruction manual to get you moving right along. When you’re done you’ll find yourself with a 60 x 45 inch quilt, which is a great size for your first one. Finish your project by turning it into a nice wall hanging or pillow!
- Baby Clothes Quilt Kit - I was definitely inclined to throw this product on to the list because my grandma made me a quilt using my old baby clothes and I absolutely love it! It really is a wonderful idea. Go through that box of old baby clothes you know won’t be worn again, and make something really unique. Quilting with baby clothes is a great way to display those meaningful pieces of clothing.
- Fons Porter Folding Travel Tools In Case - This travel tool is great for quilters, and anyone that sews for that matter. It offers all your need-to-have tools in one spot and in a very convenient Swiss army knife style when you’re on the run. This product is not to be used as a substitute for your primary quilting tools, but it’s a convenient case that can be easily transported.
- Magwear Magnetic Wristband - Wristbands like this can and will be your best friend while sewing. Keep those pins and beads close and in reach when you need them. A great final point about this product is that it can be used for way more than sewing, for example; keeping nails all in one place when hanging pictures. You will soon find this multiuse magnetic wristband is a great value.
- Just Sew Stories Bag - This bag is perfect for hauling all your sewing accessories around and extremely cute too. It can be used to tote around anything, but it is definitely big enough for your quilting supplies and scraps. If you’re looking for a bag with a little more structure and compartments, take a look at this Sewing Basket.
Not only do quilts make great comforters for your spare bedrooms, they can be very beautiful wall hangings as well. If you find yourself with too many homemade quilts, do not worry, you will find they make great, very personal gifts for family and friends!
